Unveiling the Elegance : A conversation with fashion Maven Shloka Sudhakar

Must Read

Shloka Sudhakar has impressed us with miraculous designs with each of her collections. Having her collections showcased at all popular fashion weeksacross the country, she’s definitely a designer to watch out for on the block.

Let’s get chatting with Shloka Sudhakar:

Is there something new or anything coming up in the coming year, you’ve been off limelight this year?

I don’t believe in being in the limelight as a person all the time. As far as my label is doing well, we have people adoring us for our work, it really works. It’s just that I haven’t had a show this year. But, I’ve been working on three ideas simultaneously which I wouldn’t want to disclose so soon. But my label “Shloka Sudhakar”, is getting more recognition and clientele year after year and I’m in a happy space. My next collection is going to be something that is completely traditional, it’s all about the kanchivaram and banaras sarees, I’ve always been known for my lehengas and the Indo western clothing, but now it’ll be the classic traditional wear and I cannot wait to launch it.

How have you made your presence felt in every metropolitan city?

Nothing has been easy and nothing is ever easy for anyone. I think I’ve got a good break at Fashion Weeks, my work has been recognised. Retailing at multi designer stores across cities like Mumbai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Chennai, Delhi, Gurgaon and more has been a good way to have my label’s presence in most cities. Besides , with social media, I think it’s been easier for us to get exposure in many cities apart from Bangalore, where I’m located.

Who is your biggest critic ?

I think I’m my biggest critic, I’m always trying to improvise on every front , be it the design aspect , finishing, shoots, styling or any other front. Besides, I’ve my family, my mom and my aunt who are constantly on the lookout for me and always trying to see what I should have done better or how I should re-work or re-do on a few things! And my brother and sister, who I make clothes for and go out in all ways to find the most smallest of the mistake and point out at everything and are super specific about what they want.

How do you see yourself in the world of fashion in the next 5 years?

Five years is a long time ahead, but I’m constantly on the move and working each day towards being better at what I do. I think you’ll see me with a few more brands venturing into clothing along with my label “Shloka Sudhakar”, that will be my luxury line and definitely want it to be the most sort after label for every women across the nation amongst brides and wedding goers. I look forward to having people donning my label at weddings and all auspicious occasions. I don’t think I would just want to be known as a designer, I would definitely want to venture out into many fields which I’m interested in and do as many things as I can.

Have you ever been affected by social media and do you consider it as an advantage or as a disadvantage?

I think social media definitely has more advantages to disadvantages for sure ! For us to showcase our collection and designs to the world , it’s the best platform , at the same time you can keep a track on plagiarism and keep up to date with various fashion trends across the globe, the different cultures , their ways of fashion , the origin of many techniques and a lot more. The disadvantage can be the designs, the prints and styles that can be copied by others and sold.

What have your biggest struggles ever been?

Struggles are for real ! I think taking each step forward has many struggles with it. There have been various struggles where even when a designer is perfectly doing well,  you might have the external factors that will affect. There was a time when I started off, there were two instances where I came up with collections and later found another then established designer taking up the same designs and ideas and launching it as theirs. I think there was this time we had  excellent sales at one multi designer store and they delayed our payments for 6 months , which hinders our growth in the beginning. Many such instances,  But, I think eventually in the end, it is all of this that eventually gets you to where you are, it is our drive and consistency that keeps us going.
