Sai Pallavi’s Controversial Remarks on Violence Fuel #BoycottSaiPallavi Trend on Social Media

Sai Pallavi is currently at the center of a heated controversy. An old interview clip of the Amaran star has resurfaced, leading to calls for a boycott on social media.

At this stage of her career, Sai Pallavi is reaching new heights professionally. She’s gearing up for her latest release, Amaran, hitting screens on October 31, and is also slated to lead a major pan-India project, Thandel, alongside Naga Chaitanya next year. Perhaps the biggest milestone yet, she will portray Maa Sita in Nitesh Tiwari’s upcoming Ramayana, starring opposite Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama. Yet, instead of promoting Amaran, Pallavi is making headlines for an old interview that has sparked a backlash online.

Why is #BoycottSaiPallavi Trending on X?

What exactly did Sai Pallavi say to ignite this controversy? The clip circulating on social media originates from a January 2022 interview, where Pallavi discussed her views on violence. She questioned the nature of conflict by saying, ‘People in Pakistan may see our army as a terrorist group, while we view theirs similarly. So, it all depends on perspective. I don’t understand violence.’

While her statement intended to reflect on differing viewpoints, her examples have stirred strong reactions. Referencing the portrayal of the Kashmiri Pandit genocide in The Kashmir Files (2022), she mentioned a Muslim driver transporting a cow who was lynched by a mob chanting ‘Jai Shri Ram,’ as an example. These remarks, once again in the spotlight, have drawn widespread criticism, with some perceiving them as insensitive to the Indian Army and the sensitivities surrounding communal violence.
