A Stellar Journey from TV to OTT
Anasua Chowdhury, celebrated for her performances in Dil Dosti Dance on Channel V and popular episodic shows like Savdhaan India, Fear Files, and C.I.D., has added another feather to her cap with her role in Waack Girls. After a notable appearance in the movie Laal Singh Chaddha, Anasua now plays LP, a fashion designer, in this groundbreaking Amazon Prime series.
A Historic Show About Waacking
Speaking about her excitement, Anasua revealed that Waack Girls is the first OTT fictional show inspired by real-life experiences with Waacking, a unique dance form. “I feel more than blessed and grateful to be a part of such a historic show. It’s not just about the dance but also about how these women, with their individual lives, come together through this art form,” she shared.
Personal Connection to the Art and Story
As a dedicated Waacker herself, Anasua has been practicing this dance style for over a decade. She finds the show deeply personal, especially as it features her real-life friend Ishani, also from Kolkata. “Like the girls in the show, I am from Kolkata too. Ishani and I used to Waack together as kids. Now, being part of the same show, representing this art form, is incredibly meaningful,” she expressed.
Empowering Women Through Dance
Anasua emphasized how Waack Girls portrays women breaking free from societal stereotypes. “The characters face their own struggles, but this dance gives them the freedom to live in the moment. It’s empowering, making them feel fierce, fabulous, and strong,” she said.
Breaking Stereotypes and Celebrating Freedom
The series sheds light on breaking societal norms, particularly around how women are expected to carry themselves. “You’ll see stereotypes being broken. The rest, you’ll have to watch the show to experience,” Anasua concluded.
Waack Girls promises an inspiring blend of storytelling, dance, and empowerment, making it a must-watch on Amazon Prime.
