“AHAM” – A Solo Exhibition of Mythological Paintings by Sukanta Das

Mumbai, December 2024 – Renowned artist Sukanta Das, celebrated for his evocative reinterpretations of Indian mythology, invites audiences on a journey into the timeless world of myths and legends with his much-anticipated solo exhibition, titled “AHAM”. The exhibition presented by Suan Artland Gallery will feature a captivating collection of paintings that reimagine age-old narratives through a contemporary lens.

The title “AHAM”, meaning ‘I’ in Sanskrit, reflects Sukanta Das’ introspective exploration of the self within mythological stories. Through his vibrant colours and intricate details, the exhibition delves into the symbolic layers of Indian epics like the Mahabharata, Ramayana, and Puranic legends, portraying themes of divinity, heroism, morality, and the eternal interplay between good and evil. His work breathes new life into these ancient tales, making them resonate with modern audiences while presenting a visual narrative that bridges the past and present. This solo exhibition is curated by Sunil Chauhan, who shared his perspective on the show: “Curating ‘AHAM’ has been an enriching experience, as Sukanta Das’ work transcends the boundaries of time, connecting ancient wisdom with contemporary artistry.”

Regarding the exhibition, Sukanta Das remarked, “Indian mythology has always been a profound source of inspiration for me. Through this exhibition, I aim to reinterpret these timeless stories for a modern audience, delving into their symbolism and underscoring their relevance in contemporary life.”

The exhibition will open with a preview on Thursday, 19th December 2024, from 6:00 PM to 8:30 PM, at the prestigious Taj Art Gallery, Taj Mahal Palace, Mumbai. The artworks will be available for public viewing on 19th and 20th December 2024, from 10:00 AM to 8:30 PM.

Following its two-day showcase at the Taj Art Gallery, the exhibition will move to Suan Artland Gallery, G-16, Commerce House, Kala Ghoda, Mumbai, where it will be on display from 21st December 2024 to 15th January 2025, between 11:00 AM and 6:30 PM.
