His doctoral thesis, “Artificial Intelligence (AI) Applicability in Local Supply Chain Management: Opportunities and Threats for Kuvimba Mining House,” confronts a critical question for Zimbabwe’s mining sector: how can AI be deployed effectively and responsibly within localised supply chains to create value while managing inherent risks? The research focused on Kuvimba Mining House, a flagship entity within the Mutapa Investment Fund, overseeing assets including the Freda Rebecca, Shamva, and Jena gold mines. Amid volatile commodity prices and logistical constraints, Kuvimba recently unbundled into five specialised entities: Mutapa Gold Resources, Mutapa Base Metals, Mutapa Energy Minerals, Mutapa Platinum Group, and Mutapa Frontier (rare earths). This strategic shift sharpened operational focus, making the study’s insights particularly timely.
Dr. Gunyere’s work systematically examined AI applications, from demand forecasting and inventory optimisation to supplier intelligence and early-warning risk systems, while critically assessing adoption barriers such as data limitations, infrastructural gaps, and skills shortages.
