In the bustling city of Faridabad, a remarkable story of devotion and service began in 1934 with the birth of Motilal Gupta. Born into the respected Mehndiwala business family, young Motilal showed exceptional promise early on, excelling in his studies and earning a Gold Medal in Science from Benaras Hindu University in 1955. His future seemed set in the world of business, where he worked across India and even England.
Yet, a deep calling stirred within him. In April 1986, after years of success, Dr. Gupta made a life-changing decision: he renounced his prosperous career to dedicate himself fully to a higher purpose—his devotion to Shirdi Sai Baba. Together with his wife, Smt. Kanta Gupta, he founded the Sai Dham, the Shirdi Sai Baba Temple Society in Faridabad, in 1988. This NGO was unlike any other; it was built on the principle of ‘Sewa Parmo Dharam’—service is the supreme duty.
Over the years, Dr. Gupta’s tireless devotion transformed Sai Dham into a beacon of hope for thousands. The organization reached beyond barriers of caste, creed, color, and religion, working tirelessly to uplift the socio-economic conditions of the poor and needy. His leadership proved how one individual’s faith and dedication can create a powerful ripple of compassion and relief across society.
Dr. Motilal Gupta’s journey teaches us that success is not just measured by personal achievements but by how profoundly one can serve humanity. Through Sai Dham, his legacy of love, service, and unity continues to inspire generations.
A renowned homeopath, he is also a beacon of hope for many suffering from severe illnesses like epilepsy and dengue. His dedication to healing earned him an honorary doctorate from YS University, Florida, in April 2017. For over thirty years, Dr. Gupta has committed himself not just to medicine but also to uplifting communities in need.
One day in April 2006, deeply moved by the sight of poor children wandering aimlessly near the Shirdi Sai Baba Temple Society in Faridabad, Dr. Gupta decided to act. These children, from nearby JJ clusters, had little access to education or basic necessities. Recognizing the urgency, he founded the ‘Shirdi Sai Baba School’ to offer them free, quality education coupled with nutritious food, clothing, study materials, and healthcare.
From its humble beginnings, the school has blossomed into a well-known institution affiliated with CBSE. Today, it serves 1,400 children in Faridabad and 600 more in Niswara, Uttar Pradesh, many from marginalized backgrounds.
Dr. Gupta’s story reminds us how one person’s compassion can transform lives. His healing extends beyond medicine; through education and care, he has nurtured countless young dreams, lighting paths previously shadowed by poverty and despair
Dr. Gupta had a vision: to equip young people with skills like computer training, tailoring, and beauty culture, giving them a chance to build a better future.Through demanding courses and supportive guidance, many youths discovered talents they never knew they had. What came next was even more transformative: placement help that turned learning into livelihoods, lighting a path away from poverty.
But Dr. Gupta’s work didn’t stop there. He believed in the power of community and unity. Each year, he facilitated mass marriages for about 100 girls from economically weaker backgrounds. These weddings crossed caste and creed boundaries, celebrating equality and dignity. Every bride received necessary household items without any expense for their parents, easing their burdens and opening a new chapter filled with promise.
At Sai Dham’s dispensary over thousands of patients find relief daily. Specialists ranging from gynecologists to eye doctors served the poor, while alternative therapies like homeopathy and psychoneurobics addressed deeper wellness. This blend of care showed Dr. Gupta’s holistic approach—nurturing not just skills or weddings, but body and spirit alike.
By February 2025, Sai Dham had celebrated its thousand marriages—a symbol of hope, unity, and new beginnings.
The Shirdi Sai Baba Temple Society, guided by the tireless Dr. Gupta, is reaching out to over 5,000 children and 300,000 families. Despite his old age, Dr. Gupta works with the energy of youth, believing firmly that education is the strongest force for social change.
Starting with education, the Society has implemented more than 30 active welfare projects focused on healthcare, skill development, women’s empowerment, mass marriages, and essential supplies like clothes and sanitary napkins. These projects touch lives daily, creating hope where there was once despair. Dr. Gupta often says, “Education empowers a person to earn their livelihood and opens their eyes to health and social issues, helping them grow into responsible citizens.”
But the battle is far from over. Millions of children in India remain out of school, their lives clouded by poverty and illness. The Society’s unique life-cycle approach involves not just the children but also their families and entire communities, fostering long-term development and resilience.
Through persistent effort and compassion, Dr. Gupta and the Shirdi Sai Baba Temple Society stand as a powerful reminder: together, we can bring lasting hope and transformation to the most vulnerable corners of our society.
