ICC T20 Rankings: Abhishek Sharma Soars to Career-Best Second Position, Surpasses Tilak

India’s star batsman Abhishek Sharma has made a remarkable leap in the latest ICC T20 rankings. With a stellar performance in the fifth T20 against England, where he scored a magnificent century, Abhishek has climbed 38 places to achieve his career-best second position among batsmen. His rise in the rankings has pushed Tilak down to the third spot. Meanwhile, Travis Head continues to lead the T20 batsmen rankings.

Top-10 T20 Batsmen

Travis Head tops the chart with 855 rating points, followed by Abhishek Sharma with 829 points and Tilak at third with 803 points. Phil Salt holds the fourth position with 798 points, while India’s current T20 captain, Suryakumar Yadav, ranks fifth with 738 points. The top-10 list also includes Jos Buttler, Babar Azam, Pathum Nissanka, Mohammad Rizwan, and Kusal Perera. Due to Abhishek’s rise, every player below him has dropped one position until the ninth rank.

Yashasvi Jaiswal has slipped out of the top-10, dropping three places to the 12th spot. Abhishek’s explosive knock of 135 runs off 54 balls, featuring 13 sixes, played a crucial role in India’s 4-1 series victory over England. He is now just 26 points behind the top-ranked Head.

T20 Bowlers’ Rankings

India’s Varun Chakraborty has also made significant gains among T20 bowlers. As the Player of the Series against England and the highest wicket-taker with 14 dismissals, Varun has earned a spot in the upcoming three-match ODI series. He has now jumped three places to secure a career-best joint second position in the T20 rankings, sharing 705 rating points with England’s Adil Rashid. West Indies’ Akil Hussain leads the rankings with 707 points, while Wanindu Hasaranga and Adam Zampa occupy the fourth and fifth positions, respectively.

India’s Ravi Bishnoi has climbed one place to sixth with 671 points. With Varun, Bishnoi, and Arshdeep Singh in the top-10, India boasts three bowlers in the elite list. However, Arshdeep has slipped from eighth to ninth place, while Axar Patel has dropped from 11th to 13th. Adil Rashid, who previously topped the rankings, has fallen to second place, and Jofra Archer has slipped four spots to 10th.

Test Rankings Update

Australia’s recent innings-and-242-run victory over Sri Lanka in the first Test at Galle has resulted in notable shifts in the Test rankings. Acting captain Steve Smith has surged three places to fifth after his 35th Test century, while Usman Khawaja has moved up six spots to 11th following his career-best 232-run knock. Yashasvi Jaiswal remains fourth among Test batsmen, with England’s Joe Root retaining the top position, followed by Harry Brook and New Zealand’s Kane Williamson.

Jasprit Bumrah continues to dominate the Test bowling rankings despite recovering from a back spasm. Recently honored with the ICC Best Male Cricketer of the Year 2024 and Best Male Test Cricketer awards, Bumrah remains India’s highest-ranked bowler. Left-arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja is the only other Indian in the top-10, occupying the ninth spot. South Africa’s Kagiso Rabada has climbed to second, while Australia’s Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, and Pakistan’s Noman Ali complete the top five. Australia’s Nathan Lyon and Mitchell Starc have also made gains, with Lyon moving up two places to sixth and Starc to 12th after their efforts in Galle.
