In the memory and honouring the legacy of MEDC’s Founder-President, Dr. DhananjayraoRamchandra Gadgil, Deputy Chairman of the Planning Commission, Government of India, Maharashtra Economic Development Council (MEDC) has been organizingthe Dr. D. R. Gadgil Memorial Lecture since 18 years and this year 19th Dr. D. R. Gadgil Memorial Lecture is held on 15th October 2024 at the Main Auditorium, Y. B. Chavan Centre, Nariman Point, Mumbai, from 3:00 PM to 4:30 PM.
For the past 18 years, the Dr. D. R. Gadgil Memorial Lecture has stood as a distinguished platform for discourse on critical socio- economic issues, having hosted some of the most prominent thought leaders. Past speakers include Dr. Montek Singh Ahluwalia, Dr. R.A. Mashelkar, Mr. Arun Jaitley, Dr. Arthur Carty, Dr. Vijay Kelkar, Prof. Avinash Dixit, Dr. Y. K. Alagh, Dr. KaushikBasu, Dr. SaumitraChaudhari, Dr. Raghuram Rajan, Mr. Devendra Fadnavis, Dr. Rajiv Kumar, Prof. Abhijit Banerjee, Mr. Suresh Prabhu, Mr. Nitin Gadkari and Dr. Ajit Ranade.

This year, MEDC has the honour of hosting Dr. Krishnamurthy Subramanian, Executive Director, International Monetary Fund (IMF), Washington DC, and former Chief Economic Advisor to the Government of India, who will deliver the lecture on “India’s Roadmap to a Developed Economy by 2047.” Dr. Subramanian is a globally recognized technocrat with a passion for using policy to address contemporary socio-economic challenges. His vision of nation-building and his belief in India’s potential to create a prosperous and inclusive future will provide invaluable insights to the audience.
Mr. Sundararaman Ramamurthy, MD & CEO, Bombay Stock Exchange Ltd., will set the tone of the lecture. Mr. Ramamurthy’s extensive expertise in market dynamics and economic development will provide a powerful foundation for the discussions at the event.
The 19th Dr. D. R. Gadgil Memorial Lecture is organized under the leadership of Mr. Atul Shirodkar, President of MEDC, and Mr. Ravindra Boratkar, Immediate Past President, along with the support of the MEDC Governing Board Members.

MEDC was established in 1957 under the stewardship of eminent economist (Late). Dr. Dhananjayrao Gadgil the then Vice- Chairman of the Planning Commission, Government of India. He established the MEDC to promote rapid and balanced economic and industrial development in the state. The Council is essentially a development catalyst and investment facilitator of the state of Maharashtra.
